Optimus Tactus: Touchscreen Keyboard

The original Optimus is in fact a bunch of mini OLED screens jammed into key sized boxes. Well, their newest concept, the Optimus Tactus, simply removes the keys and just goes all screen. In fact, one could argue that it’s a touch screen in a keyboard shape, right? Tactical feedback will be lost, but manufacturing should be more straight forward - not necessarily cheaper - than the original Optimus keyboard.

If you’re thinking ewww, well, so am I.  Ok, I’ll be honest, I don’t know if it’s goo per se, but based on the pic the Cyber Clean looks like a piece of Playdo.  Apparently, its malleable form will get into those keyboard crevices never reached before and erradicate germs while picking up yesterday’s sandwich crumbs.

Wrist Cooling Keyboard

the products people build. This one cools your wrists while typing. Unless you’re the controller for a space shuttle launch or hitting the nuclear launch reset key, how many times will this thing come in handy? Plus, the added keyboard width might prove uncomfortable for the large handed. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to take it for a test drive, it just think it’ll be relegated to the junk drawer sooner than later (I don’t really have a junk drawer, but you get the point).

I wouldn’t go as far to say the Keyscan KS810 Keyboard is what peanut butter is to jelly, but it’s pretty darn close.  What we all lack is desk space and the Keyscan KS810 provides more of it by integrating a full color scanner into the keyboard.  Definitely, clutch for scanning biz cards, and it even accepts papers that are 8.5×30-inches.  600 dpi resolution and 2 USB ports for expansion make it even more attractive.

It’s a svelte .37-inches thick - Logitech’s thinnest keyboard yet - and features their PerfectStroke key system (please, keep your teenage snickers to a minimum), which presumambly provide’s a butter smooth like typing experience (think Macbook keyboard). They’ve also included an adjustable backlight for in the dark typing, a palm rest and complete keyboard with F keys and keypad.

The Logitech Illuminated keyboard will be available October 2008 for $80

A few months back I posted pics of a leaked Microsoft mouse call the Arc Mouse. Today, Microsoft made it official and as reported the tail of the device folds up for greater portability. Embedded in the body of the wireless mouse is a snap-in magnetic bay, which holds the micro-transceiver. The Arc Mouse can withstand up to 25lbs of pressure and features a ‘cell phone’ hinge for greater durability.

The Arc Mouse ships in September 2008 for $60

The creators of T9 announced Swype, a very cool, potentially thumb-saving method of text entry. Simply trace the word and Swype figures it out. For instance, in the above image, the finger traced the lines between Q, I, C, and K to create the word ‘QUICK’ as in ‘50 words per minute QUICK!’
